Consultancy Supporting European SMEs Targeting Funding for Research, Development and Innovation

SME Mentor provides consultancy support to small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) targeting funding for research and development (R&D). Taking the company’s perspective as a starting point, we provide guidance and coaching, to support SMEs that want to innovate. We combine specialist "coaching" and development "mentoring" support and help with the development of measures to support SME innovation. We believe that successful innovation projects will raise the company’s profitability and competiveness.

We offer consulting support services enhancing clients' innovation management capacity, including:

The services are currently focused mainly on the EU's Horizon 2020 Programme. Phase 1 grants are worth €50,000 over 6 months. Phase 2 grants are worth €0.5-2.5m. Upcoming deadines for both phases are 18-03-2015, 17-06-2015 and 17-09-2015. The first Phase 1 Projects of the SME Instrument have started; we are already acting as the Business Coach for a successful Phase 1 award.

Successful proposals need to be very pragmatic and market-oriented - particularly the Excellence and Impact sections. Impact is the most important criterion. The project plan requirements have been streamlined. Subcontracting is anticipated and SME Mentor can help you to write the proposal and help you deliver the work (including the innovation itself).  In particular SMEMentor can help with the following tasks:

SME support services are also offered for other funding streams such as the EU Eurostars and Competitiveness of Enterprises and SMEs (COSME), along with national funds e.g. Enterprise Ireland.

The services are provided by Paul Phelan (Ph.D., MBA), an experienced research management consultant:
